Known as the "arm balance and inversion king", Scoop believes that, “We are capable of anything if we have passion, discipline and the patience to work towards it.”
His classes have been described as hard, intense, sweaty and challenging. But something that keeps the people coming back for more. What keeps the crowds hooked? “I think what makes class fun is seeing progress in our practice. We all have poses that initially seem almost impossible to do. Whether because of flexibility, strength, fear, whatever it is that is holding us back. As we continue to practice and push ourselves, we begin to see progress, our muscles become longer and stronger and we become comfortable in positions the before were frightening.”

Power Yoga Master Class (2 hours) I want to take you someplace warm, where the sweat flows like wine, and laughs instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. All those poses you’ve been working on, deep hip opening, back bending, inverting and arm balancing, we’re going to talk about them, break them down, practice them, and advance them.
A few class rules to know before coming: 1) high fives are not optional; 2) try at least one thing you’ve never done before; and 3) only positive words. This class is open to all levels!

About Scoop This ex-Olympic weight trainer earned his BS in Sports Management from the University of Tennesee-Knoxville eventually enrolled in the University of Hawaii's Kinesiology graduate program. Scoop never considered his body a yoga body until he found himself in a Bikram class. “I was so sweaty I biked home in my underwear but was super pumped to come back for more,” he recalls.
While he attended UH, Scoop worked as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach, which got him hands-on with the football, baseball, women’s track and women’s water polo teams. “The sports and coaching background definitely come out in my teaching,” says Scoop.
Scoop Slyman in his own words: "I grew up moving back and forth across the United States and always playing sports. I took an interest in yoga at a young age because I heard professional athletes use it to stay healthy and prevent injuries, but had little time to practice because of my demanding athletic and academic schedule. After completing the University of Hawaii’s Master’s program in Kinesiology, yoga very naturally found its way into my life and has been a part of it ever since.
"Being an athlete, I was first drawn to the physical aspect, the movement and asanas, working to be stronger and limber, but there was something unique that came with a yoga practice that was different than how I had previously trained: mindfulness. What is going on in your mind as your body moves? This was such a new method of training from the sports world of “Ignore it and keep going,” and “No pain, no gain!”
"I have since immersed myself into yoga exploring every avenue there is to expand my practice, learning to deeper connect with myself and others. It has lead me to become a Power Yoga and AcroYoga Level 2 teacher and Thai massage practitioner. My practice has brought me around the globe to Europe, Asia, North and South America to teach, train, and learn from some of the top yoga, handstand, acro and bodywork teachers in the world, each one having amazing gems of knowledge they share, which have worked their way into my unique approach and style of teaching.
"I am always enthused to share what I have learned, but even more excited to connect with and learn from everyone I meet. Namaste!"
