Unlock Your Potential: Andrew Abaria in Manila

Picture
Andrew Abaria is a hatha yoga instructor, a motivational music maker, and an inspiration coach based in Los Angeles, California, USA. He has been practicing yoga for 11 years and teaching for nine years. He did his first 200-hour yoga teacher training with Annie Carpenter at YogaWorks in Los Angeles followed by another 200 hours with Raghunath in New York.

Andrew's style is rooted in the Ashtanga and Vinyasa systems, infused with a strong focus on alignment and how to work into the poses. He coaches students to critically think and feel with their minds and bodies to safely and courageously achieve any pose. His approach is light-hearted and full of yogic wisdom. Students get a special treat at the end of a class, as he plays the harmonium during savasana.

This series, called "Unlocking Your Potential," features three workshops that focuses on arm balances and inversions, hip openers, and advanced backbends.

The Art of Flying

Andrew will lead the class through a playful and sweaty two-hour workshop filled with inversions and arm balances. We will explore how poses like bakasana and lolasana are the "gateway" poses to the majority of other arm balances, and use the strength we build in those poses to help us in our inversion practice (headstand, forearm stand, handstand). No need to be able to have an advanced inversion/arm balance practice – we will unlock your potential as a beginner and help you fly!

The Art of Letting Go

Hip openers require a lot of surrender and letting go, and it is only when we let go that we are able to reach our full potential. This two-hour class will work towards the peak pose goal of leg behind the head (eka pada sirsasana). We will learn how to use our experience in Warrior 1, Warrior 2, and other beginner's poses as ways to prepare the hips and spine for the more advanced leg behind the head posture. Students do not need to currently be able to put their leg behind their head, as the majority of the class will focus on preparatory hip opening asanas.

The Art of Heart Opening

Advance your practice with Andrew as he takes you through a two-hour class filled with advanced backbends. We will work the spine in backwards extension in various standing and balance poses as preparatory asanas to prepare for more advanced backbends like ūrdhva dhanurāsana, kapotasana, and purna natarjasana. If you want to unlock your potential and open your heart more courageous, on and off the mat, this class is for you!
